What's in a name?
A few people have asked me lately where the name Blonde Mit Baby came from. The back story isn't remotely interesting, or trendy or even a classic pop culture reference. The name of my blog, created to express my inner-most thoughts on one of the most significant chapters in my life, my patch of the internet dedicated to capture and document the profound journey of growing another human inside myself and the platform I use to vent my proverbial pregnant spleen actually stems from a scene in Bridget Jones' Diary. Not even the first one - I'm talking about its inferior sequel, Bridget Jones' Diary: The Edge of Reason. In the movie, Bridget thinks she falls pregnant whilst on a skiing trip with Mark Darcy and desperately tries to communicate her need for a pregnancy test in a small German pharmacy with mildly confusing results.
You can see the acclaimed moment in the history of film here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTCKAy3buxo A little while after we told them I was pregnant, my family started calling me 'Aimee Mit Baby' - there's no further meaningful link other than the fact that they'd watched that film in the last ten years, 'Aimee' and 'baby' almost rhyme and I also needed a pregnancy test very quickly. Mum even changed my contact name in her phone to 'Aimee Mit Baby'. The nickname faded but the blog remains. So there we go. There's no hidden pun, German heritage or crafty SEO tactics - Blonde Mit Baby was concocted on the back of a relatively unfunny family in-joke from a relatively unfunny scene from a 2004 chick flick. I'll go ahead and take a bow for the sheer level of wit and creativity.
